WHAT TO DO IF YOU SUFFER A LOSS

The following are intended as basic guidance for the procedures in the event of loss:

  • If Comprehensive cover is in force an estimate should be obtained for the repairs unless the vehicle or machine is beyond repair. We understand the nature of your business and therefore you are able to obtain estimates from your normal garage or dealership.
  • In the event of the costs being more than £300 Labour + parts or if the damaged item isa total loss then please let us know immediately so that we can arrange an engineers inspection.
  • If a vehicle is a confirmed or suspected Total Loss the vehicle Registration Document, MOT Certificate (if applicable) and service records should be sent to Rural or given to our engineer as soon as possible.

PROPERTY

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SUFFER A LOSS

  • In the case of Fire damage where the Fire Brigade is involved obtain the brigade details and any brigade reference number.
  • In the event of Theft, vandalism, mysterious disappearance of goods or livestock report immediately upon discovery to the Police and obtain the Crime Report reference and name of the reporting officer.
  • Where the loss involves damage to computers and other electronic devices do not attempt to use them. Arrange for an expert to assess the damage and to try and effect any repair.
  • For all Property losses prepare a written inventory as soon after the loss as possible - for theft losses this should be given to the Police and a copy retained for any Insurance claim.
  • If possible take photographs of the damaged items, write down brand names and model numbers. The more information and documentation we have the faster your claim can be processed.
  • If practical always try and protect your property from further loss. We have no objection to you making temporary repair. However always remember though to never endanger your own life or that of others.

HOW TO REPORT A LOSS
In order that we can offer the earliest possible assistance please ensure prompt notification of all claims.

If the person sustaining the Injury or suffering the illness is incapable of reporting the loss then we will happily accept notification from family members and others. The most important fact is to ensure that notification is given to us.

It is important that all sick notes from the GP or Hospital are kept securely. These will be required in connection with the claim and possibly by you for Social Security purposes.
